International Food Night 2
Woodward Chile Student Photos
On Friday 29th of February 2008 (yes, leap day) we had our second International Food Night at Woodward Chile and it turned out to be even better than the first.
Everyone that came in to Woodward had to pass through 'Immigration' to receive their special visa (their name tag with their country). Before anyone could continue on, they had to go through customs and declare any food and alcohol that they had brought with them. The country regulations clearly stated (on the whiteboard) that no food nor alcohol could enter and would be confiscated. It was a busy night on border control with over 45 confiscations in one hour.
At the end of the hour we put all the food and drinks on the ping-pong table in the patio for all to enjoy. We filled the table up with food and needed other tables just for the drinks.
We created the immigration scenario so that everyone got to try all the different varieties of food at the same time. If we hadn't put everything out at the same time, the last ones to arrive might have missed out on what the first people had brought along.
Different nationalities that participated:
Chile, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, Japan, China, India, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Norway, Russia, Netherlands, United States, England, Wales... I know we're missing someone else. :)

We said the international food night would finish around 10pm but as per usual it went on until around 2am and continued at some pub, somewhere.
Our Spanish student from Norway told us an interesting story about a typical drink from his country that he brought along called Linie Aquavit. Basically they store this drink in sherry casks and ship it to Australia but don't unload it there. They ship it back to Norway without opening them! Why? Around 200 years ago they send a shipment of this drink to Australia but for some reason they had return it back to Norway without opening it. Once it arrived back to Norway and they opened the bottles, they found that the taste was incredibly delicious compared to before so they did the same route again and again crossing the equator line twice (there and back) every time until this present day. Linie Aquavit was a favourite of the many 'tastings' held that night.
Of course there were a traditional dance lessons in the dance room. How do the latinas get so... um, flexible.
It was a great night for all!
